bloXmove is a decentralised mobility blockchain platform that connects various mobility service providers in one global alliance: from cars and taxis to scooters and bikes to buses and trains.

Personal Background

Sophia Rödiger has a background in business psychology, is an author and a bridge builder between humans and technology. In the last seven years, she worked for Daimler. There, she held several different leadership positions in innovation and transformation spaces.

I set up a start-up scouting and investment unit for Daimler Mobility. I am a mentor for female founders and #womenintech as well as #womeninmobility. Besides bloXmove, I love to be in the mountains, teach yoga, and run marathons,” shares Sophia Rödiger.

She is the CEO of bloXmove and in charge of Investor Relations, Partnership Management, Business Development, as well as Sales & Marketing.

bloXmove is a newly founded venture with headquarters in Ireland and Germany. Their product, the bloXmove Mobility Blockchain Platform, was incubated by Daimler Mobility AG and it also reflects the background of the company’s three founders.

Harry Behrens is the founder and CTO of Power & Mobility. He founded and headed the Daimler Mobility Blockchain Factory until May 2021. He is a veteran Blockchain evangelist.  He has been active in the Blockchain sphere since 2012.

In 2016, he co-founded the DFS Blockchain swarm and initiated the development of the smartVIN® Blockchain platform. Before starting his new position as “Mr Blockchain” for Daimler Mobility AG, he was the Head of IT for Mobility and Digital Finance for Mercedes-Benz Financial Services China.

Harry has a master’s degree in Computer Science from TU Munich, with a thesis on Neural Networks. He also holds a PhD in Information Engineering from the University of Tokyo with a thesis on Distributed Artificial Intelligence.

He speaks six languages fluently and is trying to learn Mandarin Chinese. In his private time, he enjoys practicing languages and reading about history.

Bernd Hanisch is the third co-founder and CFO!

Bernd Hanisch is a proven industry expert in mobility management for companies and urban mobility.

In his previous role as Head of Product Management, Marketing, Innovation and Rent at Athlon Germany, he was particularly involved in driving the ramp-up of electric mobility and innovative mobility solutions in the B2B sector.

What Problem Does bloXmove Solve and What Makes It Unique?

Urban mobility is fragmented and requires more efficient resource sharing. New modes of transportation might add a choice for customers, but they also add complexity.

People lose money and time with multiple onboarding processes, cannot transfer tickets or points, and must use several apps for each journey.

Operators cannot offer integrated, bundled services to provide the actual service desired: urban, multi-modal mobility.

This also leads to inefficient and unsustainable allocation of resources. Building an infrastructure to address these challenges is beyond the means of any individual enterprise and requires an alliance for sharing of resources and roaming of services,” says Sophia Rödiger.

Getting enterprises to cooperate can only be achieved via a democratised and shared governance. A platform dominated by a single player won’t get buy-in from other service providers.

bloXmove solves the hassles faced by businesses collaborating in urban mobility. bloXmove is a decentralised Mobility Blockchain Platform that provides easy pluggable interfaces to verify identities and credentials, smart contracting, and revenue distribution.

By interconnecting through bloXmove, operators can build a “Star Alliance for Mobility”. Based on service roaming, users can access services with 1-click verified credentials.

This allows operators to:

  • extend the product range and process automation,
  • get access to new assets and markets for sales and revenue,
  • keep control of their customer relations,
  • increase stickiness through a better experience.

bloXmove is based on Blockchain/DLT, DID, IoT as key technical enablers for cooperative decentralisation. It uses smart contracts on an EVM, Ethereum-compatible Blockchain for transaction management, and a Corda DLT for revenue distribution and liability management.

bloXmove further develops the software, which has been built at Daimler Mobility over a 3-year incubation period and is ready for production. The founder team has more than 25 years of experience in the automotive industry and a strong network of CEOs and CPOs of mobility partners, OEMs, etc.

Bloxmove is not an aggregator platform. It provides a decentralised ecosystem where every partner keeps its customer touchpoint and relationship, as well as secure data ownership.

How Did It All Start?

We incubated the project and technology over 3 years together with Daimler Mobility and other state-of-the-art start-ups like spherity and 51nodes,” explains Harry Behrens who led the Daimler Mobility Blockchain Factory.

They started the journey with a traditional company like Daimler based on their industry network and the know-how about mobility. Now, they are an independent venture, which is very important for their open-source and decentralised ecosystem strategy.

We began as a 3-founder-team in May this year, and we are continuously growing. We have collected more than $3 million in seed funding, and the team has expanded to almost 15 internal talents,” proudly shares Sophia Rödiger.

The company has signed +10 letters of intent with customers, and by Q1 2022, bloXmove will be live with the first onboarded ecosystem partners. The Mobility Blockchain company has also set up further exciting projects with the local government in the Netherlands and the South of Germany. Furthermore, they will push the Power Meets Mobility – Green Energy Deal with 50 Hertz and the Energy Web Foundation.

Influence of bloXmove

Right now, the team behind bloXmove sees a highly fragmented mobility market. A user who is living in Berlin and is using smart mobility concepts has 5 different scooter apps, 3 different train apps, 4 different bike apps, as well as several airline and aggregation apps on their smartphone.

If he or she is travelling to another city or country, they must start looking for the right apps again. The user has to download new apps, register and verify a driver’s license, and do a boatload of other time-consuming things. This is how travel journeys look like today.

Currently, a few aggregation apps try to bundle the services. But the risk for the providers is that they lose their customer touchpoint and must pay for integration.

Now let’s imagine a world where mobility is decentralised and connected.

Companies using bloXmove can offer their customers different services that the company cannot offer on its own. For example, a scooter company can offer a ticket for “Berlin all you move”, including car sharing, taxi, and buses.

That way, a user can use the app of their choice and get all the tickets they need to get from A to B. There won’t be any need to switch between different apps. Their trip will be covered with one ticket, which will save them tons of hassle and stress.

Biggest Achievements

The first one is the successful management buyout – we bought the technology license from Daimler and delivered the execution services for a successful BLXM token sale in October.

Furthermore, we got 10 signed letters of intent in 3 months and started the onboarding processes with our early adopter partners to build up the Minimum Viable Ecosystem in DACH and BeNeLux.

And finally, we have gathered more than $3 million in seed funding and have grown our team to almost 15 internal team members,” explains Sophia Rödiger.

How Will bloXmove Make a Difference in the Future?

The Blockchain company has a real tech disruption coming from the backend. They will combine digital identities with the concept of IoT and the Blockchain. This will bridge any data space with the physical objects in everyday life.

The decentralised network serves to enable balancing between the power grid and electric cars. Here, bloXmove connects two new sectors. That shows the potential of their technology.

New partnerships can be formed, and they can bring new opportunities. In the electrification of the power grid, cars or other electric devices, like scooters and busses, play the role of electricity storage devices,” explains Ms. Rödiger.

bloXmove’s goal is to transform the sector with the fastest & largest CO2 impact in the coming decade. Right now, the energy market has negative prices because we collect energy when the sun is shining and the wind is blowing. This often makes the energy grids struggle with those peaks because the grid can break down.

If we connect more and more smart devices and build a new ecosystem of energy providers and big fleet providers, bloXmove can help generate new flexibility in the usage of renewable energies,” says Sophia Rödiger.

In the future, there will be no boundaries. Devices, smart homes, companies, and users can be interconnected and can communicate in bloXmove’s decentralised infrastructure. New revenue streams will be generated, which can incentivise OEMs to invest more in the electrification of products. Also, private-end users can contribute to the coupled energy net and can get a reward when they use green and smart mobility services instead of petrol cars.

One of bloXmove’s core values is sustainability – so the team wants to enable new concepts to support cities and governments in developing new green solutions and cultivate new lifestyles.
